Press Release on incidences of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia

    May 28,2021

    Calgary, Alberta

Over the last few weeks, incidences of anti-semitism and Islamophobia have been reported across the country. CMPJ unreservedly condemns these attacks in the strongest possible terms. Bigotry and hatred have no place in Canada and must be rejected by us all.

Racism is all too common, as any marginalized person in Canada can attest to. Too many Canadians are targets of hate because of the colour of their skin or the religion they practice. While recent events in the Middle East are upsetting, they cannot be an excuse for Islamophobic or anti-semitic hate. As Canadians, it is incumbent upon us to stand together, united against hate.

We urge all levels of government to condemn the rise in Islamophobia and anti-semitism and to work with community groups across the country to build a safer Canada for us all.
